Install the app
Get Suwatte on your device, complete the first-run setup, and find your way around.
Suwatte needs iOS 17 or a later version. It runs on an iPhone and on an iPad.
The first run
The app shows a guided setup the first time that you open it. The setup covers three decisions:
- Content settings. Keep Safe Mode on or turn it off. Start in Incognito Mode or do not.
- Where content comes from. Add a source list, connect a server, or select a folder of local files.
- Restore a backup. If you come from a different device, do this now. Do not configure the app two times.
To see the setup again, go to Settings → Getting Started → Replay Onboarding.
The tabs
Suwatte opens to one of four destinations:
- Library holds what you saved, in your collections.
- Home shows the home pages of the sources that you installed.
- Activity shows your history, your sessions, your streaks and your recaps.
- Updates lists the new chapters of the titles that you follow.
To change the first destination, go to Settings → Reading → Startup & Activity → Open To.
Sign in to iCloud
Suwatte syncs your library through your own iCloud account. Sign in to the same Apple Account on each device, and turn iCloud Drive on.
Downloads do not sync through the app database. Credentials can sync separately through iCloud Keychain. See iCloud sync.
Restore a backup
- Go to Settings → Advanced → Backups.
- Import the backup file.
- Select a mode. Replace removes what is in the app now. Merge adds what is missing.
A backup does not hold your downloaded chapters. Download them again on the new device.
Read Backups for the full list of what a backup holds.
Appearance
Open Settings → Reading → Library & Appearance:
- Accent Color changes the colour of the app.
- Tile Style selects
CompactorSeparatedcover tiles. - Items Per Row sets a value from 2 to 12, for portrait and for landscape.
